Custodian & Maintenance Coordinator
Job description
The Washington Center for the Performing Arts is seeking a part-time Custodian & Maintenance Coordinator. This position works directly with the Event & Operations Director and Production Manager to create a healthy atmosphere, an essential role in maintaining the building and physical plant while directly supporting the organization’s mission. This role will include at least 2 overnight shifts per week.
Essential Cleaning Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of building and surroundings to industry and venue standards.
Perform various cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, and washing.
Pick up litter in venue and on grounds.
Apply cleaning chemicals safely and follow safety measures for equipment operation and maintenance.
Perform minor repairs, maintenance, and painting as authorized.
Perform setup and strike following events, moving tables, chairs, and equipment.
Painting, power drill use, and other handywork experience is a benefit.
Administrative Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain relationships with vendors and stakeholders to order and prepare maintenance-related items.
Initiate and coordinate maintenance projects with Event and Operations Director and City Facilities team in a timely manner.
Maintain communication with relevant managers and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and materials.
Work Safe, Safety & Security:
Periodically inspects, or otherwise maintains awareness of, facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage.
Secures venue(s) to always ensure proper building security.
Verifies that emergency equipment is maintained and repaired as needed.
Assists in implementing emergency planning and response.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This role will include at least 2 overnight shifts per week.
Desired Qualifications:
Must be able to work professionally, independently, and as part of a small and dedicated team. Must have strong attention to detail and finesse in interpersonal relationships. Must be able to balance multiple deadlines and have exemplary follow-through. Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with all employees, vendors, contractors, and public entities. Ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions requiring the ability to concentrate and consistently produce accurate work while responding to interruptions and changing priorities. Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision-making capabilities are essential.
Preferred:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Physical and Environmental Requirements of the Position:
To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, the employee must meet certain physical demands. Reasonable accommodation is available for individuals with disabilities.
The employee will frequently bend, sit, move about, hear, and speak. Noise levels may be high when operating power equipment. Must be able to stand, be on feet, and move around for a full work shift.
The job requires the use of ladders, scaffolding, and mechanical lifts. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment.
The employee is required to properly use safety equipment to prevent injury to self or others.
Ability to communicate in person, by radio, electronically, and over the phone. Ability to use computer equipment to complete reports, generate service orders, maintain inventories, etc.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or illnesses during their duties.
