February Chamber Forum: The Climate Crisis and Impacts on Businesses
Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (11:00 AM - 1:00 PM) (PST)
Description
The Thurston County Chamber is honored to announce Daniel Wirth, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Northwest Region’s South Puget Sound and Olympics Chapter, as the keynote speaker for its February Forum on February 14, 2024, from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the Norman Worthington Center at Saint Martin's University.
In a world increasingly impacted by climate-related disasters, Mr. Wirth will address the pressing issue of disaster preparedness and its significance to the community. The presentation will shed light on the escalating challenges faced by businesses and communities due to the climate crisis.
Key Statistics:
In the last 10 years, the number of billion-dollar disasters has increased by 70%.
More than 8.5 million people have been forced from their homes in the past decade.
Relief operations for major disasters have nearly doubled in the last ten years.
Red Cross on the Front Lines:
The American Red Cross is at the forefront of supporting individuals struggling to cope after being displaced by worsening disasters. Strategic investments are being made to enhance capacity and adapt services to aid families during their time of need.
Ready Rating Program:
Mr. Wirth will introduce the Ready Rating Program, a free service in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross. This program empowers businesses, schools, and organizations to enhance their preparedness for disasters and emergencies. Ready Rating members gain access to unique tools, resources, and information, allowing them to evaluate and improve their ability to withstand disasters, maintain operations, and protect lives and property.
Whether organizations are taking their first steps or already have a comprehensive emergency management program, the Ready Rating program is a valuable resource to achieve a higher level of preparedness.
In addition to the program, February's forum will also feature our FIRST Young Professionals Business EXPO! Young Professionals can share their business with attendees during our networking hour. Tables are $75 and include 1 lunch ticket.
