Connecting to Diverse Talent Pipelines

Join us for our third and final Unlocking the Hidden Talent Pipeline Series workshop, we will focus on connecting businesses to diverse talent pipelines.  We will walk businesses through the process of registering as an Employer host site, for transitioning Service members—including Wounded Warriors—and their Spouses. Employers will learn how to apply for funding to help offset the cost of employee training and learn the benefits of and how to, host internships for youth, young adults, adults, and older Americans. Understand why and learn how, work-based learning opportunities are a valuable asset for today and future generations, through the Business2Youth Connect programs.

Sytease Gieb, Strategic Workforce Development Consultant


Meet Sytease Geib | Sytease Geib is a Strategic Workforce Development Consultant and currently manages the WorkEx Military Internship program at JBLM on behalf of the Thurston County Chamber’s Workforce Division. In this role, Sytease connects the business community with the highly skilled talent transitioning from active duty at JBLM. Through WorkEx, Sytease supports transitioning service members and military spouses by working to develop work-based learning opportunities within the business community.

Sytease is originally from Dayton, Ohio and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from The Ohio State University. Sytease is a former military spouse and recently experienced the transition process, helping her husband Steve transition out of the Army into his next career. She is also the proud mother of two little boys.

About WorkEx The WorkEx Program acts as the approving authority for a customized, individual internship and is an approved Career Skills (CSP)/DoD SkillBridge program based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State. Employer Partners submit a training plan and WorkEx Host Employer Agreement for each intern to ensure resources are available for mentorship and training for the duration of the internship.

Karen Dove, Executive Director of ANEW

Meet Karen Dove | Karen Dove's role as Executive Director is to plan and execute the overall strategic and operational responsibility for ANEW’s staff, programs, expansion and execution of its mission.  Karen comes to ANEW from Montana where she led programs and advocated for policies focused on building economic security for all. Karen is a dedicated servant leader and has a passion for social justice issues. Karen is committed to developing collaborative partnerships resulting in systemic change. Throughout her career, she has utilized her entrepreneurial spirit and skills to create and implement new and innovative programs aimed at moving people toward family wage jobs. Karen is also a published author and when not serving her community, Karen likes to spend time on the beach, and she counts her three children are her proudest accomplishments.

About ANEW | ANEW was founded in 1980 by people dedicated to improving the access and advancement of women in non-traditional career pathways such as construction and manufacturing. ANEW continues to focus on equity and inclusion in the construction industry for both women and people of color. ANEW is the oldest, continuously running pre-apprenticeship program in the nation with a unique and successful reputation for training people to enter the construction industry.

Christina Chesnut, Senior Project Coordinator for Business Solutions at the Thurston County Chamber


Meet Christina ChesnutChristina Chesnut is a WorkSource Systems Supervisor, where she directs businesses in the community towards services for work based learning. Christina works on the Future of Work Program, guiding businesses on how they can apply for funding to help offset the cost of employee training, and she is also part of the Inspire portion of the Business2 Youth Connect/Career Connect Washington task force. She began as an AmeriCorps, working for the Thurston Chamber before being officially hired in 2015. In her time at the Chamber, Christin is especially proud of her work with the Inspire platform which provides local youth with a virtual mentor, to assist in professional development. Christina started the Inspire Program, as an AmeriCorps and was responsible for launching it in 2014.
